High-precision calibration targets for machine & computer vision applications
Calibration targets are precise, durable signboards designed explicitly for calibrating imaging systems used in machine and computer vision applications. Our calibration targets are made from two types of materials: ACM and Polyurethane. Both materials are lightweight, ultra-flat, rigid, and highly durable, making them suitable for indoor and outdoor use. These targets improve measurement accuracy by a factor of 10, making them indispensable in achieving precise results. Our calibration targets are trusted by technology companies and research institutions from around the world, highlighting their international demand and reliability in various industries.
ACM consists of two metal panels sandwiching a black polyurethane core and is available with an ultra-matte finish of 3mm or 6mm thickness. In contrast, Polyurethane is a solid compressed foam board featuring a natural matte surface, available in 3mm, 6mm, and 12mm thicknesses. The natural matte finish of Polyurethane is especially beneficial in environments with high lighting or when vision systems are exposed to various light sources, as it enhances detectability in machine vision applications. Additionally, high-volume geometric calibration of cameras can be achieved with a single image calibration solution, streamlining the process for users.
We provide various finishing options for our calibration targets, including:
Rounded corners (for easier handling of larger targets)
Special cuts (custom shapes)
Ultra Matte Finish (white ink)
Single or double-sided printing
We offer a wide range of custom sizes to accommodate large and small fields of view, with a highly accurate manufacturing tolerance of .004”. Your target is digitally printed at 1,200 DPI using vibrant UV inks through a direct-printing process. These UV inks produce smooth, rich, and authentic colors that are weather-resistant and durable.

These tips will help you during checkout and ensure your targets deliver optimal calibration results!
Always submit full-scale 1:1 files and adjust the product dimensions to match your file size. If needed, use decimal values to avoid unwanted scaling.
Upload your artwork in vector PDF or AI file format using CMYK color mode for the best print results.
During proofing, double-check that your file size matches the product size, ensuring they are both at a 1:1 scale. If they are not, you can either remove the files and reupload the corrected versions or update the product dimensions to match the file size (refer back to step one).
FoamCorePrint is not responsible for incorrect patterns or finished product sizes due to the improper scaling of customer-submitted artwork.
Submit your files for review. We encourage first-time customers to contact our customer support team to review all print files before placing orders via live chat or email.
Unlike standard targets, custom calibration targets can do much, including modifying the target's shape. Because of additional features and finish options, the cost of custom calibration targets is typically higher than that of ready-made or standard targets. Fluorescent slides and disks also calibrate fluorescence imaging systems, offering specialized solutions for unique applications. Get a price instantly for your custom target, and use our "price calculator" tool to customize and select your target's thickness, size, features, and finish options.
Our targets are made from aluminum composite material, which is weather-resistant, rust, rot, and waterproof.
A calibration target must occupy most of your camera's field of view (FOV) at the preferred working distance. Regardless, most software packages require visibility of the entire calibration target in all images/photos. So be sure your pattern and board fill your system's whole FOV. Before purchase, use this tool to calculate your field of view correctly!
Camera calibration (or camera resectioning) is a 3D computer vision imaging process involving analyzing images of a rigid calibration target moved through a stereo camera pair's FOV (field of view). This procedure determines your camera's intrinsic and extrinsic parameters while triangulating the cameras' positions, and when calibrated, it will accurately correct your lens distortion. Use our free pattern generator software online to help you design the perfect calibration targets for calibrating your cameras that remove measurement bias. If you need help along the way, ask. We've got the expert insight to get you in the right direction in calibrating your system and adequately defining your 3D coordinate system space in no time!
Camera calibration is the process of determining a mathematical model for an optical system, in particular, a camera lens. This information can then correct distortions and other aberrations introduced by the optics. Camera calibration is essential because it helps reduce errors when using the camera's imaging system. Camera calibration is done with special equipment that projects patterns onto surfaces or into space and measures how these are distorted as they pass through the imaging system. Photographers often use ColorChecker targets for accurate color results in photography and filmmaking, ensuring consistency and precision in their work. The distortion data collected this way provides data needed to calibrate lenses.
A calibration matrix is a table of values calibrating an instrument's response. This can be done by measuring the response from different known concentrations of analytes and creating a linear relationship between the measured concentration and its corresponding signal intensity. Using these data points, a camera calibration curve can then be developed.
